Frequently Asked Questions

We know you might have questions about how Accross Restaurant Consulting works and what to expect. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear:
Why should I hire Accross instead of doing it in-house or hiring a full-time bookkeeper/CFO?

Hiring Accross gives you a team of specialized experts at a cost often less than one full-time employee. We bring decades of restaurant-specific experience in accounting, operations, and strategy. In short, we provide more value and a wider skill set for your money. You get an entire support team focused on making your restaurant more profitable, rather than a single role trying to do it all.

You’ll start to see some results quickly. In our initial free audit, we usually identify a few “low-hanging fruit” changes that can save money almost immediately (like fixing a bookkeeping error or joining our purchasing program for instant cost savings). Within the first 1-3 months, most clients see noticeable improvements – for example, cleaner financial reports, reduced expenses, or more efficient operations. Bigger results, like significant profit margin increases, can take a bit longer (6 months to a year) as we implement deeper changes and those changes take effect. However, we’ll set clear expectations from the start. We focus on quick wins early, and then long-term sustained improvements. We’ll keep you updated with progress reports, so you’ll always know the impact we’re making.

While results vary by client, our goal is to help every restaurant we work with reach around 15% (or higher) profit margins if they aren’t there already, and to save you significant costs and time. Some examples of results past clients have achieved:

  • Cost savings of 10-30% on key expenses like food purchases, utilities, or insurance by renegotiating deals, and lowering the price aspect of purchases.
  • With Operational Optimization, we implement inventory management tools and eliminate the waste by eliminating theoretical and actual variance. This lowers the quantity. We usually see a 15-20% reduction in quantity used as a result.
  • Expansion from a few locations to more while maintaining or improving profitability at the same time.
  • Owners regained hours of free time each week because they no longer had to micromanage bookkeeping or put out fires constantly – our systems took care of that. Remember, we are committed to delivering a return on investment. In fact, we strive to make our services pay for themselves multiple times over through the gains you’ll see.

We offer customized packages depending on your restaurant’s needs. Our first consulting work is an in-depth assessment of the good, the bad, and the ugly. This initial assessment is a low-cost, high-impact work that takes about 2 weeks to complete. We, then, present you the significant areas of improvement and a roadmap to solve these. We base our scope of work on our agreed-upon scope. This way, there are no surprises.

You know what problems we will solve, a timetable that these changes will be implemented and how much it will cost.

We guarantee our results. We will work until the results we promised are obtained.

Our pricing could be a monthly retainer (a flat monthly fee for ongoing services like bookkeeping, CFO guidance, etc.) or a project-based fee for specific projects (like setting up systems or training staff). We tailor the arrangement to what makes sense for you – whether you need us a few days a month or a more continuous presence. We’re mindful that restaurant margins can be tight, so we structure our fees to be affordable and aligned with the value we provide. In many cases, the savings we find for you or the increased profits will more than cover our fees. We’ll always be transparent about pricing up front, and there are no surprise charges.

You will always have at least 5x the return on our project or we will work for free until we ensure the results.

No, our clients stay with us because they want to, not because they have to. We do not lock you into a burdensome long-term contract. We typically ask for a basic agreement that outlines the services and a recommended timeframe (for example, a 6-month initial program, since some improvements take a few months), but you can cancel anytime with notice if you’re not satisfied. Our philosophy is to earn your business every month by showing you results and great service. If circumstances change or you only need us for a short-term project, we’re flexible. We even offer month-to-month arrangements for certain services. We want you to feel comfortable and confident in working with us, without feeling stuck.

We try to make the process simple and clear:

  1. Free Profitability Audit: First, we schedule your free audit. We’ll gather some initial information (like recent financials, your biggest pain points) and then our team will analyze it. We’ll meet with you (via video call or in person if possible) to discuss what we found and propose areas of improvement.
  2. Action Plan: Based on that, we create a tailored action plan. This plan outlines what services and steps will address your needs – for example, cleaning up bookkeeping, implementing an inventory system, training your managers, etc., along with a timeline and milestones.
  3. Implementation: We get to work! Depending on the plan, we might be on-site at your restaurant for a period, or working remotely with regular check-ins. We’ll execute the changes – setting up software, organizing financial records, negotiating vendor deals, training staff, and so on. We keep you in the loop with regular updates, but we also handle as much of the heavy lifting as possible so you can continue running your business.
  4. Ongoing Support & Monitoring: After the initial fixes, we don’t just disappear. We continue to support your business – for instance, doing monthly bookkeeping closings, providing CFO insights each quarter, or doing quarterly compliance checks. We monitor key metrics (like your profit margin, costs, sales trends) and report these to you. If something isn’t improving as expected, we adjust our approach. We’re always available to answer questions or tackle new challenges that come up.
  5. Review and Adjust: We’ll periodically review the progress with you every month to ensure you’re happy with the results. We’ll highlight what improvements have been made (with data), and plan next steps or new goals as your business evolves. Throughout the process, communication is a priority – you’ll know what we’re doing and why. We try to make working with us feel like an extension of your own team, without needless bureaucracy.

Absolutely, you can choose the specific service(s) you need. We are totally flexible. While our services complement each other, not everyone needs everything at once. Some clients start with just one area – for example, bookkeeping cleanup or joining the purchasing program to cut costs – and later add more services as they see the benefits. Others might want a full package from the get-go. It’s whatever fits your situation and comfort level. If you only want help with HR compliance, we can do that. If all you need is a part-time CFO to help with financial strategy, we can do that too. We will advise if we notice related needs (for instance, if you ask for bookkeeping but we see you could greatly benefit from cost cutting as well, we’ll let you know), but the decision is always yours on which services to use.

Not at all. In fact, most of our clients feel they have more control and visibility than ever once we come on board. Our job is to organize and present your business information in a way that you can easily understand and make decisions from. You still make all the key decisions – we’re here to provide you with accurate data, expert recommendations, and implement your decisions efficiently. Think of us as an extension of your team. We work with you, not in place of you. You’ll find you actually know more about what’s happening in your business (financially and operationally) after partnering with us, because part of our service is to generate regular reports and have review meetings with you. Also, we operate transparently – you’ll have access to all your accounts and systems. Nothing is hidden; in fact, we prefer to teach you along the way if you’re interested, so you fully understand the improvements being made. In short, you maintain control, and we empower you with better tools and information.

Yes, we often collaborate with our clients’ existing team members. Our goal isn’t to replace your good employees – it’s to support them and make everyone’s job easier. For example, if you have a bookkeeper or accountant on staff, we can work with them to improve the accounting process, introduce better software, or take on the more advanced tasks that they may not have time or training for. If you have a kitchen manager struggling with inventory, we’ll train and coach them on new systems. We approach consulting with a team mentality – we join forces with your people. In many cases, your staff is relieved and happy to get expert help; they often end up learning new skills through working with us. Of course, if you don’t have someone in a particular role (say, no HR manager or no finance person), we can handle that function entirely. But if you do, we integrate and collaborate. The end result is usually a stronger overall team.

We stand by the quality of our work and are committed to delivering results. While every business is different, we do guarantee that you will see improvements when you work with us. Our guarantee is simple: if you follow our agreed-upon plan and recommendations, you will see measurable financial or operational improvements in your restaurant. If not, we will make it right – that could mean working extra at no charge or revisiting our approach until you do see results. We’re not happy unless you’re seeing positive changes. We’re confident in this because we have a track record of success. Additionally, remember that we don’t lock you into long contracts, so if for any reason you weren’t satisfied, you wouldn’t be stuck – but our aim is to wow you so that you want to keep us around. Your success is our promise.
